The Witching (1972)
83 min.
Directed by Bert I. Gordon.
With Pamela Franklin, Orson Welles, Michael Ontkean, Harvey Jason, Lee Purcell, Lisa James, Sue Bernard.
Enjoyable witch brew.

Frank (Ontkean) gets a stellar job offer so he and wife Lori (Franklin) move to the insular community of Lilith where they discover creepy town boss Cato (Welles) is more than a little fascinated with the black arts.

Indeed, the whole village is a witches' coven!

And powerful Cato already has a sinister plan in mind for sweet Lori...

Will the new couple escape the dark clutches of the occult or are they past doomed?

An oft muddled plot is more than forgiven thanks to a good performance from horror regular Franklin; but beware: funky Welles is on a different planet altogether.

Some surprising nudity here and there (including Franklin in the buff). Re edited/reissued in 1983.

Best scene: the terrifying and downbeat ending that only proves one thing: never help an evil sorcerer.

Also known as either Necromancy or as The Toy Factory.
