Thirst (1979)
98 min.
Directed by Rod Hardy.
With Chantal Contouri, David Hemmings, Rod Mullinar, Henry Silva, Shirley Cameron, Max Phipps.
In an Australian psychiatric hospital run by a vampire sect, the doctors kidnap and forcefully hold a woman named Kate Davis (played by Chantal Contouri), whom they believe to be a descendant of their founder, Elizabeth Bathory.

This twist on the usual vampire story focuses on the modern industrialization of a "blood farm": where the red stuff is manufactured and distributed to drinkers.

Also at work here is the mental pressuring of Contouri to conform to a world of belief and ritual she doesn't know or understand or even believe in. She's expected to take her rightful place as some blood heiress, literally.

A stimulating watch, to be sure, and one in which you'll have to decide whether you enjoy or not.
