Tarantulas: The Deadly Cargo (1977)
95 min.
Directed by Stuart Hagman.
With Claude Akins, Pat Hingle, Deborah Winters, Tom Atkins, Charles Frank, Howard Hesseman, Bert Ramsen, Matthew Laborteaux.
This convoluted TV horror is still a bit of fun.

A pair of coffee traders (Atkins, Hesseman) attempt to export a large sum of java from Ecuador via plane.

But unbeknownst to them they've taken as stowaways a group of highly poisonous (and very aggressive) tarantulas.

When the aircraft crash lands in California near an orange growing community, the dangerous critters begin an unstoppable wave of man-killing terror.

Unstoppable that is, until fire chief Akins whips out a deadly combo of amplified wasp sounds, alcohol and carefully-positioned lights (please, don't ask!).

Contrived but enjoyable, this teleterror boasts a surprisingly high bodycount and gets extra points for including the realistic death of young Laborteaux.

Rare, but worth seeking out for a fun late nite watch.
