The Re-Animator (1985)
86 min.
Directed by Stuart Gordon.
With Bruce Abbott, Jeffrey Combs, Barbara Crampton, David Gale, Robert Sampson, Carolyn Purdy-Gordon.
This okay horror is mindless, cartoonish fun.

Herbert West (Combs) is a medical student obsessed with body reanimation. He teams up with like-minded fellow student Dan (Abbott), so the two of them can continue their Frankenstein-esque experiments together.

But their success is only half realized. They can bring the dead back to life...but their subjects end up violent, brain-dead zombies!

Over the top. Gory. And like a cheap hooker who either leaves one merely functionally satisfied or impartially cold, this admitted cult fave is too much of a disjointed hodgepodge of elements to ever call itself a classic.

Fashioned (but certainly "reimagined") from a H.P. Lovecraft story, Herbert West, Re-animator.

Rather too early in the game to smell distinctly...but if you hold your nose carefully to the wind....you can *almost* smell the 1990s around the corner. Yuck.

Still, all things considered, not bad.

Followed by Bride of Re-Animator in 1990.
