This drama-cum-horror story has two pretty California co-eds (Raffin, Moody) on a cross country drive.
Experiencing car trouble, the girls find a mechanic in a nearby small Southern town. They also discover the unwelcome sexual advances of its sheriff.
Once spurned, the sheriff rapes one of the girls and arranges for both of them to spend some time in the local women's prison where all types of new horrors await them.
Quintessential seventies face Deborah Raffin is excellent, while Moody is touching as her tortured black friend.
Both Connors and Reed are underused here, but both are superb particularly Connors as the malicious town sheriff.
With a powerhouse finale.
Originally a TV movie, additional scenes containing nudity, violence and lesbian advances were added to create a separate theatrical release.
