Michael Mann, responsible for the hit TV series Miami Vice, directed this crime drama based on the Thomas Harris novel Red Dragon.
Some horror elements here, but essentially important because of its introduction to audiences of Hannibal Lecter (played here by fine actor Cox).
Mann's roots betray the film only slightly in a few overly stylized sequences and a couple of mediocre rock songs that overwhelm the action, particularly during the conclusion.
It's real strengths, however, include a multi-layered protagonist, a menacing antagonist, a strong storyline and believable situations.
