Long Weekend (1978)
95 min.
Directed by Colin Eggleston.
With John Hargreaves, Briony Behets, Mike McEwen, Michael Atkins, Roy Day, Sue Kiss von Soly.
This one's a wacko Aussie nature-runs-amok horror!

Burdened with some serious marital woes, suburban couple Peter and Marcia (Hargreaves, Behets) venture into the untamed bush for the weekend in hopes they can repair their marriage. A little rest and relaxation will do them both good.

But they find instead that all wildlife has gone mad...and hell hath no fury like nature scorned.

Could it all have something to do with the fact the couple seems to have a blatant disregard for the eco-system they live in? They litter, they kill small creatures etc.

Is nature paying them back for their unkindnesses? Will the two make it out of the wild alive? Or will they be claimed as so much used rubbish?

As the couple fights for their lives, they find out firsthand...this is going to be one LONG weekend!

Quite atmospheric (particularly in the final third), this one musters some fine performances from its two leads (Hargreaves especially as the well intentioned but clueless hubby).

It's sluggish in spots, but more than compensates with a cool one-two power punch finish.

Lesson learned: don't trash eagle eggs! There'll be a price to pay.
