Believe it or not, this competently shot Italian JAWS ripoff isn't half bad.

A great white shark terrorizes the waters of a popular beach during a local regatta.

Reporter-writer Benton (Franciscus) joins forces with sea vet Morrow (as the Shaw wannabe) to find and stop the gnashy beast.

Lotsa blood sprayin' and limbs-a-flyin' - this IS an Italian imitation after all - as well as some decent setups with the shark highlight this well-meaning and enjoyable venture.

Admittedly, it mimics not only the original JAWS but borrows liberally also from JAWS 2 (including a downed helicopter and teenagers stranded on rafts).

Director Castellari, so good at helming Italian action adventure flicks, here demonstrates he's capable of carrying a horror-themed creature-on-the-rampage storyline.

And since there's no chance this'll touch Spielberg's 1975 classic, why not relax, quit comparin', and enjoy this fun ride?

Also known as The Great White.

Italian title: L'Ultimo Squalo.
