A psychological horror from acclaimed director Robert Altman.
Lovely writer Cathryn (York) receives an anonymous phone call suggesting that her husband (Auberjonois) is adulterous. Soon, the fraught woman begins to experience much difficulty distinguishing between reality and...images from her own disturbed mind.
Has her ex lover returned from the dead?
Has she just brutally stabbed her husband's good friend?
And what of the image she occasionally catches of...herself?
First person schizophrenia is well realized by Altman and claims the viewer early on, challenging us to even try and guess what is real and what is Cathryn's own truth.
Certainly has some echoes of Polanski's Repulsion (1965), York delivers a powerful performance both haunting and touching.
With a shocking, unforeseen climax.
