This Deliverance variation is too often just a muddled action grab bag.
Five wise-ass suburbanites venture deep into the Arkansas woods for some big game hunting.
Once there, they stumble upon a group of backwoods savages who turn the tables and decide the city hunters should become the prey.
This is generally well acted (Gulager and Bottoms are always reliable performers), and it's bolstered by a few good moments including an admittedly creepy severed head scene.
But as with so many thrillers made beginning with the late '80s, this suffers from messy plot structuring and cartoonish characterizations (example: the whole 'rednecks in the bar' sequence is merely a needless story detour).
Worth a watch for action horror buffs, but otherwise it's overcooked fast food: tasteless and unmemorable.
