With Drew Barrymore, James Woods, Robert Hays, Candy Clark, James
Naughton, Alan King, Kenneth MacMillan.
The pursuits of a stray cat take us through three Stephen King stories involving Woods as the patient of a Mafia-run quit-smoking clinic, Hays as a tennis has-been who accepts a deadly wager, and Barrymore as a suburban child stalked by a troll.
First sequence is fabulously clever, but the latter two are heavy handed and carried entirely by cast. Weird bookend device for each story that shows Barrymore having some kind of cosmic connection to the cat advances the story none.
Electronic score by Alan Silvestri and cinematography by Jack Cardiff are splendid.
