Solid little Hammer vampire flick written and directed by ITC's Thriller guru Brian Clemens.
Studly swashbuckler Captain Kronos (Janson) has found a suitable post-war career: with the aid of his hunchback cohort Grost (Cater) and curvaceous gal pal Carla (Munro), he seeks out bloodsucking vampire covens and destroys them one by one. Nice work if you can get it, eh?
So when young women begin to be found dead in the small village of Durward - the victims suddenly aged by decades, and with traces of blood on their lips - Kronos is on the case. Will he find some answers with the aristocratic & aloof Durward family, headed by Briant and sister Daine? Maybe.
Good action sequences and a few ever-so-delicate touches of humor make this Hammer potboiler both an intelligent variation on the vampire subgenre and generally an enjoyable watch.
Also known either as Kronos or as Vampire Castle.
