Cannibal Holocaust (1980)
95 min.
Directed by Ruggero Deodato.
With Francesca Ciardi, Luca Barbareschi, Robert Kerman, Percy Perkamin.
Infamous Italian subgenre movie that's nothing more than a grim snuff film and an excuse to torture and kill animals.

A group of provocative filmmakers from New York head down to South America to investigate and document the tribal natives.

Not without just cause, the locals are incited by the filmmakers, who in the end get more than they bargained for. Their subsequent disappearance leads to a search and discovery of the shocking footage the group captured. Outrageous in its explicitness, this one lacks the "scare factor" to make a good horror picture.

Plot aside, it's the abuse of animals that received all the attention. Several are actually killed on camera, making viewing those particular scenes impossible. Props could have (and should have) been used and there is simply no excuse for this kind of depraved entertainment.

With a score by Riz Ortolani.
