"Beware of the Blob!"

This 1950s camp classic was Steve McQueen's first lead. A strange blob of interstellar protoplasm crash lands outside a small town in Pennsylvania.

Likable teenager Steve Andrews (Steve McQueen) understands the blob is sheer evil, as it consumes local residents and innocent bystanders. But can he warn the community in time, or will they all succumb to the blob?

There are some genuinely creepy moments in The Blob, considering the small budget. After a very slow middle, the film picks up steam in its final fifteen minutes.

Listen for the loungy, groovy opening theme by Burt Bacharach. Great late nite (drive-in) fun. Followed by a sequel in 1972 - Beware the Blob! directed by Larry Hagman, while a full fledged remake was undertaken some thirty years later in 1988.
