With Barbara Steele, John Richardson, Ivo Garrani, Andrea Checchi, Arturo Dominici, Enrico Olivieri.
The classic Italian horror film which established Mario Bava (previously a cinematographer) as a pioneering directorial force in horror.
Black Sunday is a visual treat filled with wonderfully gothic and creepy imagery. It made star Barbara Steele an International star. She plays two roles: a witch who is executed at the beginning of the film (by having a spiked mask hammered onto her face!) and a princess whom the witch tries to possess. For anyone is interested in discovering Bava's work, this is the best place to start, hands down.
