Price peaks in this superbly twisted tale of mad doctor Anton Phibes, disfigured, presumed dead and most importantly, out to exact bloody revenge upon the 10 surgeons who let his beautiful wife die.
Aided by lovely assistant North and having chosen the curse of the pharaohs via the Old Testament as their morbid blueprint, the two gleefully kill, dance diabolically to celebrate and then start again. Cops remain clueless....
A fantastic role for Price (and he knows it, delighting in the quiet evil), great art deco sets and costumes, cleverly themed murder sequences only heighten the fun (a similar idea employed in Price's 1973 Theatre of Blood).
Followed by a sequel in 1972: Dr Phibes Rises Again!
